Drivers Warned Of Accident-Prone
Roads In Limbang
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Motorists from Brunei Darussalam, who go to Limbang
for Hari Raya shopping, are advised to drive carefully at three
accident-prone stretches which the Limbang Road Safety Council said
have seen victims maimed and killed.
. The council identified the three
accident-prone areas as at the sharp turns at the new Limbang Airport
Road, Kampong Batu Bekarang and Kampong Sayong junction leading to the
Limbang- Temburong border.
The advice was made by the council
through pamphlets given to motorists early this week as part of a road
safety campaign. The high-risk areas are part of the Trans-Borneo
trunk road leading to Lawas and Sabah.
The Tedungan road which is used by
motorists from Brunei Darussalam on their way to or return from
Limbang is also named as accident-prone stretch that had seen horrific
accidents in the past.
Motorists should reduce their speed
when negotiating the Tedungan road as drivers may be unaware of
roaming buffaloes on the road.
The council said it has taken
precautionary measures in the high-risk stretches to create awareness
for drivers such as putting up speed-limit signs and putting double
lines on the road.
However, it is the road users
themselves who must exercise care when negotiating accident-prone
stretches. Over two million vehicles passed through Kuala Lurah
checkpoint last year. -- Courtesy of Borneo
