Public Urged Not To Leave Cash, Valuables Inside Vehicles
By Rosli Abidin Yahya

Bandar Seri Begawan - A man claimed he lost B$300 after his car was broken into at the car park of a commercial centre in Menglait, Gadong few days ago.

Hence, motorists are again reminded not to keep any cash or valuables inside their cars.

The victim said he just returned from a bank with two of his business friends where he exchanged B$300 in loose change of B$l meant to hand out to child visitors to his house this Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

He parked his vehicle at the car park near his office. He left the loose change in an envelope inside his vehicle drawer thinking it was a safe place to hide the money.

He said the thief who might have been watching his actions from afar smashed his vehicle's side screen to take the money.

Recently, cash amounting to B$24,000 was stolen when two cars were broken into prompting the police to issue an advice to warn the public not to leave any money, jewelleries or other valuables inside their cars.

In one incident, a local manager claimed he briefly left his car at his apartment to pick up his son from school in Bandar Seri Begawan and was shocked to find that his car's side window was smashed and an envelope containing B$8,000 he left on the passenger seat stolen.

In another incident, a driver claimed he left B$16,000 inside a car to make a quick shopping trip and got the shock of his life when the cash plus two mobile phones and important documents were gone when he returned.

In view of these car burglaries, the Royal Brunei Police Force has advised the public not to leave valuables like handbags, cash and mobile phones inside vehicles. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
