3 Months And 3 Strokes For Illegal Stay

Bandar Seri Begawan - A 36-year-old Indonesian man was sentenced to three months imprisonment and three strokes of the cane by the Bandar Magistrate's Court yesterday after he pleaded guilty to remaining in Brunei Darussalam unlawfully for 334 days.

Udin Maruf had failed to produce any valid travel documents when asked by the immigration personnel who went to the defendant's house in Jalan Pengasingan, Kampong Sengkarai Tutong two days ago.

The court heard that the personnel found the defendant to have unlawfully remained in this country since the expiry of his visit pass on October 15 last year.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
