Apprenticeship Scheme Signing,
Ceremony

Begawan - A signing ceremony for the Apprenticeship Training
Agreement (ATA) took place yesterday morning at the Department of
Technical Education between five refrigeration and air-conditioning
companies and eight apprentices.
The apprentices signing the agreement
are Awg Mazlan bin Hj Hamzah, Awg Mohammad Fardhillah bin Mudin, Dyg
Nor Yusrinah bte Mohd Yusof, Pun Yin Khit, Dyg Siti Sarah bte Mohammad
Ibrahim, Awg Sufyan bin Malik, Awg Syairil Syamimie bin AMohd Zainal
andAwg Rory Hairol bin Malai Haasan.
The five companies participating in
the scheme are Sahid Sdn Bhd, Borneo Air-conditioning and Engineering
Sdn Bhd, Jati Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Sdn Bhd, HSE
Engineering Sdn Bhd and Yong Brothers and Electrical Co.
Present to witness the signing
ceremony was Commissioner of Labour Awg Hj Omar bin Hj A Rahman. Also
present were representatives from private sector, senior officers from
the Department of Technical Education, principals and ATAC members.
Acting Director of Technical
Education Awg Jamal bin Hj Kahar in his welcoming speech thanked the
five companies for their participation and continued support for the
Apprenticeship Training Scheme for Refrigeration and Air-conditioning.
"The Refrigeration and
Air-conditioning Apprenticeship Training Scheme was launched in 2002
following a memorandum of understanding between the Department of
Technical Education and Q-Carriers (B) Sdn Bhd. The scheme was
extended to Sultan Bolkiah Vocational School also in 2002," he said.
"The scheme is an important form of
technical training provided the Department of Technical Education and
to date has produced 59 qualified apprentices for employment in local
airconditioning and refrigeration companies or organisations.
"The future will see manifold
increase in the number of qualified apprentices in the scheme through
the sustained support of current participating companies and new
companies which have yet to join the scheme," he added.
The signing of the ATA signifies the
commitment and beginning of training for the seventh intake of
apprentices for one and a half years for the Brunei Darussalam
Technical and Vocational Education Council (BDTVEC) National Trade
Certificates Level 2 (NTC2) in Refrigeration and Air-conditioning.
The training will be carried out on a
block release basis where apprentices undergo on-the-job and
off-the-job training. For on-the-job training, apprentices will be
attached to participating companies for 32 weeks during which
apprentices are expected to work under normal working conditions under
the supervision of experienced personnel from the company.
For off-job-training, apprentices
will be attached to the Sultan Bolkiah Vocational School for 40 days,
where related classroom and practical instruction are to be carried
out.
On completing training, the
apprentices will be awarded BDTVEC National Trade Certificate Level 2
in Refrigeration and Air conditioning and a Certificate in
