Indonesian Detained For
Overstaying

Begawan - An Indonesian was held yesterday for failure to
produce valid documents during an inspection conducted by the Law
Enforcement Section Department of the Immigration and National
Registration.
Udiri
Ma'rufwas picked up in a house in Kg. Sengkarai, Tutong for
overstaying in the country. His two-week visit pass expired since Nov
1, 2005. He was brought to the law enforcement section office.
If found guilty will be imprisoned
for no less than 3 months and no more than two years and be caned by
no less than three strokes.
The inspection involved seven
personnel from the operations unit and led by a senior immigration
officer.
Anyone harbouring an immigration
offender who breaks the rules and regulation under the rules and
immigration act by giving them a place to stay, food and drink for
hiding, if found guilty will be charged under chapter 55 (1) (d)
immigration act and will be imposed with an imprisonment of no less
than six months and no more than two years and a fine of B$6000.
