Bandar Seri Begawan - The Sungai Besar Mosque held a Khatam al-Quran to mark the end of the nightly 'tedarus' on Saturday night.

The event began with the Khatam al-Quran, followed by the presentation of tokens to members of the organising and youth committee of the mosque.

Donations in the form of money and hampers were also presented to 14 orphans from the Sg Besar village. The orphans, under the care of eight families, comprise eight boys and six girls, and range from onscyear-old to 18-yearsold. The donations were from collections of the mosque committee, Allahyarham Hj Nawi's family and residents of the village.

Guardians of the orphans were also presented tokens at the event. The highlight of the ceremony was the hanging of a certificate that the mosque won in a competition of Best Landscape Zone 2, held by the Ministry of Religious Affairs. The mosque won first place in the category. The guest of honour hung the certificate to mark this achievement.
