Khatam At Sg Besar Mosque

Begawan - The Sungai Besar Mosque held a Khatam al-Quran to
mark the end of the nightly 'tedarus' on Saturday night.
Guest of honour at the event was
Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs, Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka
Ustaz Hj Awg Badarudin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Hj Othman. Also
present were the Penghulu, village head and residents of Sg Besar.
The event began with the Khatam al-Quran,
followed by the presentation of tokens to members of the organising
and youth committee of the mosque.
Donations in the form of money and
hampers were also presented to 14 orphans from the Sg Besar village.
The orphans, under the care of eight families, comprise eight boys and
six girls, and range from onscyear-old to 18-yearsold. The donations
were from collections of the mosque committee, Allahyarham Hj Nawi's
family and residents of the village.
Guardians of the orphans were also
presented tokens at the event. The highlight of the ceremony was the
hanging of a certificate that the mosque won in a competition of Best
Landscape Zone 2, held by the Ministry of Religious Affairs. The
mosque won first place in the category. The guest of honour hung the
certificate to mark this achievement.
The mosque was built in 1984 and
accommodates residents in the area with a total population of about
