Service with a difference -
cookies, anyone?
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Smile this is service with a difference for counter
staff. Yes, Hari Raya cakes and biscuits are to be found not only on
the racks of supermarkets and shops but also at the service counters
of some establishments, visitors say.
While acknowledging the need to buy
cakes, rolls and biscuits to serve guests at the annual festivity,
visitors reminded counter staff that they should be foremost on the
minds of service counter staff and not Hari Raya goodies.
"Not only the cakes and biscuits were
stacked high either on the counters or the floors, the staff were more
interested in bargaining instead of serving customers.
"Please understand your jobs are not
to sell cakes and biscuits but to serve customers," they said, adding
that such trading activity did riot only happen during the period
prior to Hari Raya but all-year
round.
"Some service counters became
permanent fixtures for sellers to keep their products such as 'nasi
lemak, mee goreng' and Malay cakes.
"Sometimes service counter personnel
are not to be blamed as they were forced to become salespersons by
people who leave them there.
"It is hoped that heads of department
would start baring their fangs from now to stop service counters from
being converted into mini-restaurants or bazaar booths.
"We are not trying to stop people
from doing business but do so properly elsewhere and not at the
service counters of offices," they said.
So there it is, service counter
personnel should clean up their act but there again, who wouldn't be
pleading for a break to earn a few dollars and serving a need? -- Courtesy of Borneo
