Brunei Shoppers Feel Cheated On
Miri
By Rahmat bin Hj Abdul Rahman
Bandar Seri
Begawan - A Brunei shopper who purchased a digital camera at
one of the department stores in Miri fell prey to an unscrupulous
photo dealer.
The victim said the camera was on
offer at promotional price of RM3699.00 with a free IGB memory card.
After discount, it was RM3680.00. But he was asked to pay an extra
amount of RM90.00 for the 1 GB memory card by the shop assistant.
He refused so the shop assistant said
she would call her husband whom she said was in China.
After that she went off leaving the
victim with another of her companion who knew nothing much about the
camera. His work was later taken over by two other female shop
assistants.
As the victim was very anxious to
have the new digital camera, the shop assistant assured him that it
was in good condition. He was not even taught how to operate the
digital camera.
Upon his arrival at Sungai Keraban in
Kuala Belait, while waiting to perform the Friday prayer, he tried to
get some snaps using the digital camera.
To his horror, he found that the
camera couldn't capture any images. When arriving in Bandar Seri
Begawan, he went to a photo shop and was told that the camera was not
working. He talked to one promoter from Malaysia who was at the shop.
The promoter said the camera needed to be sent back to the factory for
repair.
After discovered being cheated by the
photo dealer in Miri, the victim made phone calls to the shop. But the
shop assistant instead accused the victim of damaging the camera.
Hence the victim reported to the
factory, the Inspector 'General of Royal Malaysian Police Force at
Bukit Aman and FOMCA through faxes and emails. A police report was
made at the Berakas Police Station. -- Courtesy of Borneo
