Energy Minister Briefed On Power

- Some 16 power disruptions were reported in the Temburong
District from the month' of January until September this year.
The most common causes of the power
failure were cable leakages and faulty cable connections. This was
highlighted yesterday in a briefing session for the Minister of
Energy, Pehin Dato Seri Setia Hj Awang Yahya, RTB reported yesterday.
The Minister was on a working visit
to the Electrical Services Department branch in the Temburong
District. Pehin Hj Yahya was also briefed on actions taken to overcome
the frequent power disruptions. Of the total power usage, 86.74 per
cent is currently being used by domestic consumers, 5.09 per cent by
government agencies and 8.17 per cent by commercial buildings.
During the visit, the Minister also
toured and inspected the Kampong,Belingos power station. There he took
a closer look at the diesel engine powered turbines. The station's out
power capacity is 12 megawatts. The turbines are powered by diesel
fuel sent via oil tankers twice weekly.
The Minister's next stop was the old
Belayang power station and electrical station near the Royal Brunei
Armed Forces camp in Bangar town.
The site of the new Electrical
Services Department in the Temburong District in Mukim Batu Apoi was
also visited by the Minister. The building is scheduled to be
completed next year.
