By Za'im Zaini

Bandar Seri Begawan - Institut Teknologi Brunei (ITB) held a 'Khatam al-Quran' ceremony yesterday for its 20"' intake students who will be completing their studies, this December and graduating in May next year, at the Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) mosque.

Some 57 students held a group recitation as they completed the 30 verses from the Al-Quran as a prerequisite for the Khatam Al-Quran ceremony.

Present as guest of honour at the ceremony was Cikgu Awg Hj Sarbini bin Hj Tahir, Acting Registrar of ITB. Prior to the group recitation, a mass Asar prayer was held followed by the recitation of the SurahAl-Fatihah.

As soon as the students completed the Al-Quran recitation, a 'Takhlim' was recited by the 22nd intake of ITB students followed by a recitation of the 'Doa Khatam' by Awg Md Rafiuddin bin Hj Sabtu, Head of ITB Student Council, and a 'Dikir Marhaban'.

The Khatam A1-Quran participants were then presented with certificates by the guest of honour, who was in turn presented with a souvenir.

Towards the end of the ceremony another recitation was read by the Imam of UBD mosque, followed by a `Doa selamat' which preceded the break of fast.

According to Awg Md Rafiuddin, it is important to continue holding annual religious functions such as the Khatam al-Quran, which is one of the main religious functions organised by ITB.

He also added that the event also reminded them that their time at ITB is almost up, as the Khatam Al-Quran ceremony is held for final year students.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
