Public Vigilance Urged As Teen Crime Rate Rises

Bandar Seri Begawan - With marked incidents of local youths taking to crime as seen in a few cases of arrests made in thefts, Police condemning the crimes have issued a Hotline number 993 for the public to report any criminal , behaviour, before such cases get out of hand.

Seven youths aged 17 to 22 were arrested led by Inspector Rosli Hj Turning, Detective supervising officer of the Jerudong Police District in connection with three separate thefts, recorded from June to September this year.

Four male, teens aged 17 tc9 19 years old were arrested over the theft' of stealing four sports rims, at a parking area of Kampong Tamoi on June 2006.

Another two males aged 19 to 22 years old were detained over the case of a stolen boat petrol-refilling container in July this year at a house in Kampong Tanjong Nangka.

Another 19 year-old male teenager was arrested in the case of stealing a generator from a house in Kampong Mulaut-Kilanas, last month. Police are currently looking for his accomplice who is still at large.

After further investigation, the stolen items have been recovered. And in connection with these thefts Police urged the public not to purchase merchandise that appeared doubtfully low priced compared with current market prices as they could be stolen goods. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
