Halal Check On Sg Liang's Ramadhan
Food Stalls
By Liza Mohd
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Officers from the Halal Import Permit Issuing Board
conducted a surprise spot check on Sungai Liang's Ramadhan food stalls
yesterday afternoon after the public suspected that a non-Muslim was
selling barbequed chicken to the public.
However, it turned out that the
vendor was a Muslim convert. Personnel from the Belait District Office
Licensing Section also took part in the surprise spot check to ensure
that all meat and cooked food were Halal.
The food stalls are located in front
of the Soon Lee-Megamart building in Sungai Liang. After inspecting
seven food stalls, it turned out that everything was in order.
No offences were discovered as the
vendors produced receipts to show that chicken and meat were bought
from authorised outlets and abattoirs in Brunei.
These operations have been carried
out since the establishment of the Halal Meat Act 183 over ten years
ago. Those found selling dubious meat or chicken in Brunei could be
sent to court. -- Courtesy of Borneo
