DBP Holds Khatam Al Quran Event,
Donates To Orphans
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The Language and Literature Bureau (DBP) of the
Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports yesterday held a Khatam Al-Quran
(Completion of Al-Quran Recital) ceremony as well as tahlil and doa
arwah at the Balai Sarmayuda of DBP in Berakas in conjunction with the
fasting month of Ramadhan.
Dr Mataim Bakar, DBP Director, said
the events are meaningful not only in religious terms but also to
strengthen relationship in order to fulfil the spiritual
responsibility as servants of Allah so as to obtain His acceptance and
consent.
He urged his staff to read the Holy
Book during the month of Ramadhan so as to ponder the meaning of each
sentence and to make the religious teachings their daily guidance and
life principle.
"Ramadhan has been called the month
of the al-Quran since it was during this month that Allah began
revealing the Holy Book to Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).
"Let us take advantage of Ramadhan to
read the whole al-Quran to improve our understanding and to correct
our mistakes, whether reading or analysing it.
"Al-Quran can be used by us as our
spiritual guidance to lead our life in this world," he said.
At the function, Dr Mataim also
presented donations to orphans to enable them to celebrate Hari Raya
just like other children who have parents to bank on to buy new
clothes and shoes.
The staff also held a tahlil and doa
arwah to pray for former staff of DBP who had departed. Since the
beginning of Ramadhan, staff of DBP spent about an hour a day reading
the al-Quran after office hours. This is to follow the tradition of
Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and great Islamic scholars. -- Courtesy of Borneo
