19 Foreigners Nabbed In Tutong

Tutong
- Nineteen foreigners were detained yesterday for failing to.
produce valid documents in the latest operation conducted by Law
Enforcement Section, Department of Immigration and National
Registration.
The operation, codenamed Ops Berkas
104, targeted six locations including rented houses and rented rooms
of workers' housing in Tutong district. The operation, held from 10pm
till 5am, was co-led by Acting Deputy Director of Immigration,
Assistant Director of Immigration and Acting Assistant Director of
Immigration and involved 45 personnel.
The operation was a joint cooperation
between two branches of immigration agencies in Tutong district and
Bandar Seri Begawan. Those apprehended were taken back to the Law
Enforcement Section Office, Department of Immigration and National
Registration building in Bandar Seri Begawan.
During the operation, four special
passes were issued. Murugesan Prisamy, 40, an Indian national was
without any documents when enforcement officers raided a workers'
quarters near a commercial complex under construction in Tutong
district. He was caught while sleeping.
Murugesan
admitted that his immigration pass had expired and that he had been
apprehended before for the same offence. Investigations revealed that
he had been previously apprehended by Muara Police on December 26,
2003 at Kg Putat for possessing an expired immigration pass.
He was handed over to the immigration
Department and issued a compound fine of $600. He had been ordered to
report to himself to the deportation unit, however he failed to do so.
His special pass expired on October 12, 2004. Murugesan wil I be
brought to court to face charges.
Meanwhile, three Bangladeshi men are
still under investigation, after they admitted to possessing expired
immigration passes. If found guilty, they will be imposed a compound
fine. Fifteen others are still waiting to be screened for inspection
to ensure their immigration passes are still valid, while several are
waiting for their employers to bring their passports to the Law
Enforcement Section Office.
The Department of Immigration and
National Registration through the Law Enforcement Section thanked the
public for their cooperation in reporting and giving information on
immigration offences.
