Recall Leaves A Bitter Taste
By Kartika Rahman

Bandar Seri Begawan - Yesterday's front-page headline, "Ministry recalls drugs, dried fruit", has given way to doubts washing over the local bakery industry.

In the festive run-up, the production and sale of cakes and biscuits is on the rise, with the recall of lead- and mercury-contaminated dried fruit, small bakeries and consumers are expressing deep concern.

"Quite a number of cakes I bake and sell for Hari Raya have dried fruit! This will have a lot of implications," said an entrepreneur who bakes from home.

It is advised that those who have purchased and are ordering cakes and biscuits for should check with the makers on the ingredients used. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
