Pension Hike Brings Cheer To Temburong Senior Citizens
By Rosli Abidin Yahya

Bandar Seri Begawan - The old age pension pay hike announced by His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam on Monday night brought more cheers to senior citizens in the Sultanate.

Awang Serudin Pungut, a retired soldier from Royal Brunei Armed Forces, said he was talking on behalf of senior citizens in Temburong who expressed their gratitude to His Majesty for understanding the financial needs of elderly people in Temburong District.

"The announcement made by His Majesty showed his concern for the welfare of senior citizens in the country who had contributed tirelessly towards national development and progress.

"There are still some senior citizens who are actively contributing to national development," he said.

He added that even though senior citizens no longer have the energy to do heavy works, some continue working as farmers and tamu traders in Temburong.

"With the increase, senior citizens will find it useful towards purchasing food products which have seen an increase in price over the past year or so.

"It is hoped that senior citizens will spend the money wisely to keep themselves healthy and fit," he said. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
