$50 Rise In New Pension Rates

Begawan - The Prime Minister's Office has issued a circular
stating new rates for old age pension and allowances paid under the
Old Age Pension and Disability Act.
The change was announced by His
Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in a titah
at the Nuzul al-Quran celebration marking the Revelation of the Quran
on Monday night, RTB reported.
The new old age pension is $250, an
increase of $50 over the previous rate of $200.
Pension for the blind, and allowances
for lepers or sufferers of Hansen Disease and the unsound or insane,
have also been increased from $200 to $250.
Meanwhile, the allowance for
dependents that are below 15 years old has been increased from $90 to
$113.
Dependents aged 15 and above who
previously received $150 will now receive $188 each. Disabled persons,
who were previously receiving $200 allowance, will now get $250 each.
The new rates of the old age pension
and allowances paid under the Old Age Pension and Disability Act took
