New songkok for Raya
By Fyzah MD

A new 'songkok', the traditional Malay headwear, is a must to celebrate the festive season. Photo shows a boy testing a 'songkok' at a shop in Berakas for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations. The 'songkok' is worn with 'Baju Melayu' by Malay Muslim men and children during prayers, formal functions, as well as Hari Raya celebrations. Some songkoks are plain, while others can be found with designs with Arabic writings. They come in various colours mainly black and blue.
