Students Look Down Under For Degrees

Bandar Seri Begawan - Students who are interested to further their studies in Australia had the chance to gain a deeper insight into what Australian colleges and universities have to offer during the Study in Australia Fair 2006/2007 held yesterday at the Mutiara Ballroom of Sheraton Utama Hotel in the capital.

The study fair was participated by Canning- College, Charles Darwin University, Monash University, The Queensland University of Technology, The University of Queensland/UQ Foundation year, The University of Newcastle, The University of New South Wales, Tuart College and Curtin University of Technology (Miri).

The guest of honour, Hajah Norjum binti Hj Yusop, Director General of Education, Ministry of Education, in her speech underlined the importance of the study fair in providing the parents and students with an opportunity to explore avenues and options for further education.

"These fairs provide a more personal dimension, enabling interested parties to ask in-depth questions to the representatives of the institutions face-to-face, and to obtain relevant information regarding course content and facilities offered by these institutions," she noted.

She also spoke of "quality education" needed by the Government of Brunei Darussalam in achieving for the country's sustainable social and economic development.

The Ministry of Education is fully committed to the goal of establishing an education system that equips the students with skills to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

"It is my firm belief that leading Australian institutions of learning can play an important role in preparing our youth not only for their own futures but also towards fulfilling the country's aspirations," she said.

Also present was Australian High Commissioner to Brunei, Dr. Ruth Adler, who, in her welcoming address emphasised that the study fair is a representation of Australia's commitment to supporting a broad choice for young Bruneians as they embark on their step in education.

Also participating in the study fair was Anthony Tours and Travel as the authorised agent for the International Student Identity Card (IS IC) that offers various benefits for overseas students.
