NDP Caring Group Donates Money,
Food To Fire Victim
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan - NDP Caring Group made a contribution and brought some
cheers recently to Hajah Salat Dua, 70, who was facing a bleak and sad
Hari Raya after her stilt house in Temburong got completely razed to
the ground in a fire that happened last Sept. 18.
Led by Hjh Armah Hj Othman, the group
donated cash and food items. They also wanted to take advantage of
Ramadhan, which is when charitable acts are commended.
Hjh
Salat's home in Kg Salangan was completely burnt down by the fire,
which was believed to have started from the kitchen. Also destroyed
were her two cars and fishing boat with engine and trailer. She was in
the capital visiting a sick relative at RIPAS Hospital when the
incident occurred.
"I was told by Hj Umar, my son-in-law
that the fire spread quickly due to strong winds. He called the Fire
and Rescue Department immediately," she said. Hjh Salat added that she
has no intention of building another house at the same location, as
she does not have the financial means to do so.
"I only received an old-age pension
of $200 a month. My son Baha has gone to relevant agencies for help in
building a new home," she said, adding that the old house was
inherited from her late husband. -- Courtesy of Borneo
