Baggage Allowances At UK Airports
By Za'im Zaini
Bandar Seri
Begawan - UK's Department of Transport has announced that all
passengers starting their journey at a UK airport and those
transferring from international flights at a UK airport are permitted
to carry one item only through the UK airport security search point.
According to a press release from the
British High Commission in Brunei, the department has also added that
the dimensions of the allowed items must not exceed a maximum length
of 56 cm, width of 45 cm and depth of 25 cm (including wheels, handles
and side pockets).
Other bags such as handbags may be
carried within the single item of cabin baggage. Passengers are
reminded that all items they carry will be X-ray screened.
No liquids of any type are permitted
through the airport security search point, other than items which
include essential medicines in liquid form sufficient and essential
for the flights such as diabetic kit, so long as it is proven as
authentic, as well as baby milk and liquid baby food, with the
contents of each bottle or jar to be tasted by an accompanying
passenger.
The definition of liquids include
gels, pastes, lotions, liquid/solid mixtures and the contents of
pressurised containers, for example toothpaste, hair gel, drinks,
soaps, syrups, perfume, deodorant, shaving foam and aerosols.
To help the progress of passengers
through search points, passengers are asked not to include items
capable of containing liquids such as bottles, flasks, tubes, cans and
plastic containers in their cabin baggage.
All laptops and large items such as
hairdryers must be removed from the bag and placed in a tray so that
such items neither obscure nor are obscured by the bag.
Pushchairs, walking aids and
wheelchairs are permitted but will be screened.
In addition, passengers boarding
flights to the US and the items they are carrying, including those
acquired after the central screening point, will be subjected to
secondary search at the gate. All liquids discovered will be removed
from the passenger.
Passengers having questions on their
travel arrangements or security in place at airports should contact
the airport or their airlines. -- Courtesy of Borneo
