IET To Host RIFD Talk On Wednesday
By Huraizah Ahmad

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Brunei chapter of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) will host a technical talk entitled 'RFID in Brunei: Enabling Tool for Wealth Creation' on Wednesday. RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is a comprehensive technology, and the talk is meant to be the first step in understanding its benefits.

The talk will enable participants to get ideas on how to select, implement and integrate RFID into the workings of their organisation, and to decide which area of the organisation is best suited to RFID technology.

Participants, particularly those in the field of engineering technology, will learn how to use the technology to automate the dynamic flow of reliable and valuable data, harness the velocity of data and the value of real time information that an RFID solution provides.

They will also learn about new ways to make life simpler for the organisation while benefiting customers and integrating data with business processes.

This talk will also provide basic ideas on how to integrate the process foundation with RFID technology.

It is important for organisations to recognise that RFID encompasses a new way of doing business. It is not just about replacing bar codes with tags when feasible and competitive power shifts derived from RFID are underway. Commercial establishments including Wal-Mart and the US Department of Defense are using RFID to reinvent themselves.

The CEO and founder of American RFID Solutions, Harold Clampitt, will speak at the gathering. He will explain the basics of RFID.

Clampitt has been a distinguished speaker at international events in Beijing, Cannes, Hong Kong, London, Munich, Oxford, Singapore and Sydney. He enjoyed professional recognition with publication of his articles in trade magazine like RFID journal and the TEE.

Furthermore, Clampitt, was honoured as the co-founder and vice-chairman of the RFID China Training Institute in Beijing, and is currently involved in the setting up of the Malaysia RFID Technology Centre in Penang. His success can be attributed to a combination of technical knowledge and international business skills; this valuable insight has enabled him to build a team spanning 14 languages, which is operating in all major time zones.

The IET talk on Wednesday will be held at the IET office at Simpang 32-66, Block B9 Unit 1, Kawasan Anggerek Desa, Berakas (which is next to Orchid Garden - Hotel) from 7pm to 8.30pm. Light refreshments will be served from 6.30pm. Entrance is free for all IET members (TEE and TIE members) as well as PUJA members. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
