Kg Pandan's GIBB Holds Forum For Youth

Bandar Seri Begawan - Gerakan Ibu Bapa Belia (GIBB), the parent-youth movement of Kampong Pandan, in cooperation with the, Narcotics Control Bureau and Masjid Perpindahan Kampong Pandan Takmir, organised a forum at Kg Pandan Mosque yesterday.

The forum, which was entitled "Memperkasa Daya Saing Belia Sebagai Pemimpin Hari Esok", also included various religious ceremonies including reciting 'Surah Yassin', `Tahlil', `Doa Awarh'. Attendees also broke their fast at the mosque.

Apart from enlivening the atmosphere of the mosque during the month of Ramadhan, the event was to fill up the youths' free time with beneficial activities.

At yesterday's forum, the youth had the opportunity to interact and exchange ideas with members of the panel. It was also to encourage the youth to be more involved in community projects.

The forum was part of GIBB's annual activities to assist the government in tackling social problems.

In his welcoming speech, GIBB Chairman Awang Hj Zaini bin Hj Munir spoke about the history of the movement's formation. He said that GIBB was a pilot project for Belait District to assist the government in preventing drug abuse among the local communities.

GIBB also works with the government and private sector, associations, NGOs, Mukim and Kampong consultative councils and the public to accomplish any beneficial and goodwill activities, he added.

The three invited panellists were: Ustaz Dr Hj Ismuhadi bin Hj Abdullah, an official from the Islamic Dakwah Centre; AwangAli Yusri bin Hj Abdul Ghafor, an education officer from the Counselling and Guidance Section; and Chief Narcotics Officer Awang Mohamad Wendy bin Hj Awang Abd Razak. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
