JAPEM Donates To Fire Victims
By Achong Tanjong
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The Department of Community Development (JAPEM) of
the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports has recorded an increase in
the number of natural disaster victims this year as compared to the
same period last year.
Most of the cases involved fire
victims and other related cases such as house roofs being blown off by
strong winds. This was stated by Cikgu Hj Mohd Azahari bin Adis,
Community Development Officer, in an interview with the Bulletin
yesterday.
He said the victims, apart from
receiving food rations and financial assistance, were also provided
with temporary shelter housing under the Department of Community
Development located at Kg Belimbing in Subok. "These are based on how
serious the cases were, such as when their home is completely
destroyed in fire and they have no place to stay," he said.
"The victims will be given a minimum
of one year to occupy the house until they found a new home to stay."
Cikgu Hj Azahari said the Temporary Shelter Housing has 60 units,
which are now about 80 per cent occupied by the natural disaster
victims.
JAPEM
officers recently made a `lightning donation' to the fire victims of
Kg Jaya Setia, Perpindahan Berakas in the form of food rations and
daily necessities.
The donation was presented by the
Assistant Director of Community Development, Awg Hj Rosmadee bin Hj
Mohd Daud.
The recent fire left 16 people from 5
families homeless after their two-storey house was completely
destroyed. The house belonged to an elderly woman, Dyg Hjh Nafisah bte
Mat Salleh. The victims are now staying at the temporary shelter
housing provided by JAPEM in Kg Belimbing, Subok. -- Courtesy of Borneo
