Fewer Fishermen Heading Out To Sea
By Rosli Abidin Yahya

Bandar Seri Begawan - Dozens of fishermen yesterday took time off as thick haze covered the horizon, while the arrival of the month of October also signalled the start of the monsoon season.

The scene at the Jerudong Boat Landing Jetty is typically that of boats waiting in line to be towed away by their respective owners. However, this wasn't the case yesterday.

The reason for the reduction in numbers is also because Muslims are currently fasting for the holy month of Ramadhan.

Another notable absence was that of fishing hobbyists, who generally spend their spare time there in hopes of landing the `big one.'

According to the returning fishermen, the weather was really bad yesterday.

"The haze made it worse as we were not able to see the arrival of waves until at a short distance," said a fisherman.

However, there will be no shortage of fish in the market as the Sultanate imports from Sabah and Sarawak. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
