Oriental Touch Far Hari Raya Festivities
By Hanni ABD

Bandar Seri Begawan - Those thinking of adding an oriental touch to their homes for upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration can head to the China antique exhibition, showcasing thousands of porcelain, ceramic, antique and handicraft items based on the history of ancient China.

The China Jingdezhen Arts Ceramics Fair is open to the public on the upper floor building where the Ayamku Restaurant in Seria is located. The fair, which opened September 30, will end October 14.

The fair consists mostly of Jingdezhen porcelain, from the reign of the Northern Song Dynasty, and beautiful China rosewood furniture, owned mostly by Chinese royalties in the olden days.

A vendor at the fair said the ceramic vases and home decorations represent the thousand-year-old ceramic culture of the porcelain capital of China.

An interesting item is a giant ceramic pot engraved with hundreds of warriors in battle and a hundred babies, which is believed to bring luck to those looking to have children. The pot retails at $10,000.

The vendor added that there is currently a 50 per cent discount for items and prices are negotiable. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
