Mobile Thief Slapped With $1,500 Fine

Bandar Seri Begawan - A 24-year-old local man was yesterday slapped with a $1,500 fine or two months' jail in default for stealing a mobile phone. Mat Daud bin Dzolkifli went to a mobile phone shop in Kuala Belait on October 24 last year to `buy' a phone.

While in the shop, the defendant saw a Nokia N70 left on top of the showcase display. After he noticed that nobody was watching him, he snatched the phone and fled the scene.

A surveillance camera had caught the defendant on tape. The footage was shown to the police leading to the defendant's arrest. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
