BIBD Awards Outstanding Orphan
Students

Begawan - Thirty-one students who are orphans were selected to
receive prizes under the 'Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam - (BIBD)
Students Encouragement Award' scheme yesterday during the presentation
of donations for orphans in the country. The event was held at the
International Convention Centre, Berakas.
The selected students successfully
obtained outstanding exam results based on predetermined criteria.
Nine other students who are also orphans received prizes for
successfully obtaining good grades in core subjects.
The prize presentation was initiated
by Pehin Dato Seri -SetiaAwg HajiAbdullah, Minister of Development, in
his capacity as Chairman of Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam and its group
of companies.
Students who received prizes were
orphans who gained excellent results in the Primary Certificate of
Examination (PSR), Lower Secondary Examination (PMB) and GCE `O'
levels and `A' levels.
The purpose of the scheme is to
assist the less fortunate, specifically orphans. The bank hopes that
through this scheme, orphans will realise that they will always be
given the appropriate attention by society in order for them to
progress and be successful in life.
The scheme is also to show
appreciation for their achievement and efforts, while serving as an
encouragement for them to succeed. It is an opportunity for them to
enjoy the same benefits as other children and to encourage society to
continuously provide assistance to the less fortunate.
Those who received prizes for their
achievements in PSR were Muhammad Hanif bin Sooni from Nusa Laila
Puteri School, Nadzirah Hanani bte Muhammad Nazri Asian from PDS
School, and Mohammad Wafiuddin bin. Noordin from Sunshine School. They
all received five A's in the examination.
For PMB, those awarded were Dyg Toh
Tieng Yee from Maktab Sains Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan, who obtained 7
credits and I distinction; Muhammad Hamizan bin Hj Amran from Beribi
Telanai School, who obtained 6 credits and 2 distinctions; and Siti
Amal Nurul Raihanah bte Harimin from Maktab Sains Paduka Seri Begawan
Sultan, who obtained 5 credits and 3 distinctions.
In the GCE `O' levels, Mohammad
Adiazizi bin Haji Awg Md Mahadi, Dyg Toh Tieng Yuen from Maktab Sains
and Dyg Wong Chick Yin from St. Margaret's School in Seria, were
awarded.
Meanwhile, those receiving prizes for
excellence in core subjects in GCE `O' level exams were
MohammadAdiazzi bin Haji Awg Md Mahadi from Maktab Sains for English
Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects; Dyg Wong Chick
Yin from St Margaret's School, Seria for Malay language, Mathematics,
Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects; and Dyg Toh Tieng Yuen from
Maktab Sains for Malay language, Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology
