Belait Marks Ninth Civil Service

Begawan - More than 50 retired government officers from various
divisions received their certificates during the ninth Civil Service
Day, which was celebrated yesterday morning in Belait District to show
appreciation and gratitude to the country's civil servants.
The annual event, which took place at
Dewan Santap, was attended by guest of honour, Hj Ibrahim Hj Ismail,'
Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Development The theme this year
is "Perkhidmatan Awam Mesra Pelanggan", which means an emphasis on the
importance of being customer-orientated.
In his speech, Hj Ibrahim said that
the continuous efforts towards providing excellent services through
various training and capacity-building programmes have raised
awareness on responsibilities among the civil service officials.
The chief guest also highlighted a
titah from His Majesty the Sultan and Yang DiPertuan of Brunei
Darussalam that stressed the civil service role's importance in
conjunction with His Majesty's birthday celebration in 2001.
He also expressed his belief that
concerned members are aware of client charters within respective
departments that have been put into daily practice.
Recently, after an initiative by the
Prime Minister's Office, ministries and departments in the civil
service revised their vision, mission and strategic planning, so that
they would be more in line with the country's vision and development.

Ibrahim also hoped that with the completion of e-government programmes,
the level of civil service provided to members of the public would
increase and be more comprehensive. At the same time, technologies
based on the information would further increase productivity, he
concluded.
Belait
District Officer cum event's Chairman Hj Mohamad Hj Abd Rahman in his
welcoming remarks said although there are various departments under
separate ministries, their level of cooperation could be brought to
another level.
This would include cooperation and
partnership with the private sector. Such ties can also be fostered
based on the principle of teamwork. The Belait District Officer also
hoped that existing teamwork would continue to expand and increase
from time to time to achieve the objective of developing the district.
He further highlighted that civil service members should possess a
proactive, creative and innovative attitude as well as the
intellectual ability to manage changes.
At the event, apart from presenting
certificates of appreciation to retired civil service officials, there
was also a presentation of a suggestion box for residents in the
district to lodge complaints. The box can be found at the Belait
District Office.
Other side events include a health
exhibition focusing on coronary heart disease and free medical
check-up that took place at the vicinity of Dewan Santap.
The function started off with the
singing of the national anthem and followed by a reading of al-Quran.
After speeches by the guest of honour and Belait District Officer,
government officials and staff members stood up to recite the Civil
Service Day Oath.
It continued with a Tausyeh
performance by Rijalul Mukmin of Suri Seri Begawan Hospital and a
presentation of certificates to retired civil service officials, which
