Chinese Community O Mark Mooncake
Festival With Get-Togethers

Begawan - The Mid-Autumn Festival is sometimes known as the
Harvest; Festival. It falls on the 15th day of the eighth month in the
Lunar calendar. This festival is celebrated all around the world, not
only by the Chinese community, but also the Vietnamese, Korean and
Japanese.
In Brunei, it is celebrated mainly by
the Chinese community to mark the Mooncake Festival. This year's
celebration will fall on October 6.
This has been a popular Chinese
celebration that dates back to over 3,000 years. There are different
legends associated with the celebration. One of the famous stories is
about a beautiful young lady called 'Chang Er'. Another Chinese legend
is related to the celebration of the fall of the Mongols during the
end of the Yuan Dynasty in China during 1280-1368AD.
Hence, the Mooncake Festival
symbolises a celebration of peace and shared prosperity among the
Chinese community, where they would normally hold family gatherings to
