Suggestion Box To Bring
Government, Public Closer
By Liza Mohd
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Are you unhappy with the way you have been treated by
government officials?
Do you have any constructive ideas to
enhance cooperation between the government and the public? Look
nowhere. All you have to do is fill up a complaint or suggestion form
and drop it inside the suggestion/complaint box to be set up in all
four district offices in the country.
The move has been initiated by the
Management Services to support the Civil Service Day theme this year "Perkhidmatan
Awam Mesra Pelanggan" (Customer Friendly Civil Service):
Belait
became the first district to receive the suggestion/ complaint box
during its ninth Civil Service Day celebration yesterday morning.
Management Services Director, Awang
Sa Bali bin Abas, presented the box to Belait District Officer Awang
Haji Mohamad bin Haji Abd Rahman at Dewan Santap.
With the setting up of
complaint/suggestion box, members of the public can easily channel
their suggestions, complaints or appreciation on services provided by
the government agency. The mechanism is bound to encourage
transparency and two-way interaction between the government and
members of the public.
A pamphlet containing guidelines to
make complaints against government services as well as complaint forms
will be made available near the boxes. Forms will be collected every
Saturday.
However, every complaint and
suggestion will not be acted upon immediately but will be recorded and
investigated before further actions are taken.
Two officials from Management
Services will be deployed to meet members of the public at the Belait
District Office every first of the week on Thursday on a monthly
basis. Meanwhile, for the Brunei-Muara District they will be available
for a meeting on Monday, the Tutong District on Tuesday, the Temburong
District on Wednesday.
Members of the public can lodge
complaints personally to the officials with regards to government
services. However, before scheduling a meeting with them, all
complaints and suggestions should be dropped into the box first.
Similar boxes will be donated to
other district officers in the coming days beginning with the Tutong
District Officer today, the Brunei-Muara District Officer on October
7, and the Temburong District Officer on October 9.
The setting up of suggestion or
complaint boxes is a proactive step taken by the Management Services
Department to bring members of the public closer to the civil service
and also to develop good governance while identifying problems within
the civil service and seek methods to resolve them, a press release
stated. -- Courtesy of Borneo
