Teachers Learn More On Autism
By Azizah

Bandar Seri Begawan - Faculty members of Sekolah Sinaran Mas recently took time out to pay a visit to SMARTER in Sengkurong, a centre that deals with autism.

SMARTER head teachers were on hand to brief the group about autism and the facilities provided at the centre, which looks into the needs of autistic individuals.

The visit also allowed the group a chance to watch how both therapists and teachers perform their duties. Later, the visiting group was brought on a tour of the centre.

The visit was part of the school's effort to raise awareness on autism, allowing teachers to gain a better insight on how to deal with the different needs of each child.

It is crucial for teachers to understand this to allow them to be more effective in their teachings. Additionally, it will bring out the best in the children they handle every day.

Children are different in their own individual way and teachers need to constantly look for better teaching methods, exposing themselves to other ideas to ensure their lessons are different and effective.

The visiting group was impressed by the sheer commitment, dedication, perseverance and, patience of the therapists and teachers in their handling of autistic individuals.

They also learnt that possessing such qualities could yield positive results.

The visit to the centre was a follow up to the Task Analysis Workshop recently, organised by SMARTER teachers.

The workshop saw the participation of teachers from Sekolah Sinaran Mas, who were eager to learn more about autis. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
