Brunei Women Delegation Attends
Reception Hosted By Vietnam's President

Begawan - A delegation from Women Council of Brunei Darussalam
recently attended the 11th APEC Women Leaders Network (WLN) Meeting in
Hanoi that called for gender-responsive policies and practices towards
sustainable economic growth and poverty reduction in the Asia Pacific
region.
Led by President of Brunei Darussalam
Women Business Council, Hjh Sopiah binti Hj Husaini,the group was
among the delegations from the 21 APEC economies who were treated to a
reception hosted by the Vietnamese President Nguyen Minh Triet.
The Sept 19-21 meeting was themed
"Towards a Dynamic Community: Enhancing the Competitiveness of Women
Businesses for Sustainable Development and Prosperity".
In his speech, the Vietnamese
president said the l I1' APEC WLN Meeting offered Vietnamese women,
especially businesswomen, an opportunity to share and learn from
experiences of their partners in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation
(APEC).
'President Triet affirmed that the
Party, the State and the people of Vietnam fully acknowledged the role
of women in development and international integration.
The Vietnamese President promised
that he would not only report all those matters to APEC leaders but
would also highlight the important role played by women in countries
around the world.
Many of them, he said, held key
positions in society, including state and government leaders, talented
scientists and successful businesspeople. He affirmed Vietnam's
commitment to successfully hosting the upcoming APEC Economic Leaders
Conference.
Meanwhile heads of delegation from
APEC countries said they admired Vietnam's struggle for national
independence in the past and its current progress in development,
according to the news agency.
They promised to work to promote,
development and cooperation among women leaders. They urged President
Triet to report to APEC leaders incentives, recommendations and a
declaration made at the WLN meeting.
APEC
currently groups Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, China,
Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New
Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Philippines, Russia, Singapore,
Chinese Taipei, Thailand, United States and Vietnam. -- Courtesy of Borneo
