Tutong - A 35-year-old foreign woman is reported missing and feared drowned in a boat mishap on the Kuala Tutong River, yesterday.

The woman was with six other foreign nationals, including five women and a man, in the boat that was allegedly driven by a four-year-old boy.

A fisherman, who happened to be near the scene of the mishap, told the Bulletin that he heard screams for help as apparently all fell off the boat into the river except the lady who cried for help.

Those who were near the scene managed to rescue all but one woman.

The Fire and Rescue Services in Tutong District said they received a call on their hotline at 14.53 hrs and arrived at the scene at 15.04 hrs.

Eight personnel arrived at the spot and were led by Mohd Firdaus bin Ekas, Qfficer in charge of the station.

Later personnel from the diving unit and Royal Brunei Police Force joined the Fire and Rescue officials in the search operation. At press time, all the personnel using flashlights and other equipment were still trying to locate the missing woman in the area where she fell off the boat.

According to the Tutong Police District, the foreign nationals and the boat driver are currently being questioned to assist in the investigation.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
