Why Not Smoking Areas In Hospitals?
By Rosli Abidin Yahya

Bandar Seri Begawan - Even though the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital has long been declared a no-smoking zone, patients and visitors said they are still some smokers who puff away outside wards.

"The most important thing for these smokers is for them to stop smoking as there are patients and non-smokers who'd be resting outside the wards. Therefore,

by not smoking, those patients and non-smokers won't have to inhale the smoke," they said.

However, they conceded that smokers have a right to smoke as much as non-smokers are entitled to a smoke free area.

"Consequently, a zone could be set up for smokers to smoke, as in airports. The smokers, meanwhile, are liable to fines if they are caught smoking in no-smoking zones," they said.
