Bandar Seri
Begawan - Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd yesterday morning hosted an
official visit of the president of Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco),
a major customer from Japan, to the BLNG plant in Lumut.
Tepco
imports 117 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas from BLNG.
Tepco
President Tsunehisa Katsumata and his delegation were welcomed by BLNG
Managing Director Fred Smeenk and the management teams.
Smeenk
briefed the visitors on the company's operations and future plans,
which include the current rejuvenation programmes. The delegates
toured the plant, the control room, the liquefaction trains and
loading jetty.
The Tepco president is leading a
fivemember delegation for a two-day visit to Brunei.
BLNG
has delivered more than 176 million tones of LNG to Japan of which
over half of the total LNG is exported to Tokyo Electric. BLNG exports
six million tonnes of LNG per annum to its three customers in Japan.
Tepco's
supplies are approximately equivalent to one third of Japan's
electricity, which distributes it to 28 million industries, commercial
and individual customers in Tokyo and surrounding areas. LNG accounts
for one quarter of Tepco's total fuel requirements with Brunei LNG as
its key supplier. --
