Halal Inspections In Belait
District
By Liza Mohd
Bandar Seri
Begawan - As A preventive step in ensuring that fresh meat and
cooked foods sold at Ramadhan stalls are halal, surprise checks were
conducted yesterday afternoon at two major sites of Ramadhan stalls in
Belait District - Tudong Saji Kuala Belait and Pasarneka Seria.
The operation codenamed "Operasi
Ramadhan" was jointly conducted by 13 officers from the Halal Import
Permit Issuing Board and seven Enforcement Unit officials from Kuala
Belait and Seria Municipal Department.
Stall operators and food vendors have
been reminded of the importance of ensuring that foods were prepared
in a hygienic manner and most importantly fit for Muslim consumption.
During the operation, which started
at 2pm, stall operators and food vendors at Ramadhan stalls in Tudong
Saji and Pasarneka Seria were required to show purchase receipts for
meat and chicken to prove that the meats were bought from authorised
outlets and abattoirs in the country.
Enforcement officials from Kuala
Belait and Seria Municipal Boards also closely observed the safety
aspects of the stalls, cleanliness and business permits.
Belait
District became the second district whose Ramadhan stalls have come
under scrutiny to ensure that they sell only Halal foods.
The operation has been carried out
since the establishment of the Halal Meat Act ten years ago and
according to the law, anyone found selling dubious meat or chicken are
liable for prosecution. --
