Tepco Execs Visit BLNG

Bandar Seri Begawan - Brunei LNG yesterday played host to representatives of Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco), one of the world's largest electric utility companies and a loyal customer of the liquefied natural gas supplier.

The team from Tepco, which has bought more than 176 million tonnes of LNG from Brunei LNG for the past 33 years, was led by its company president Tsunehisa Katsumata.

He was accompanied by five other Tepco executives for the two-day trip in Brunei Darussalam to get to know more its LNC supplier.

Fred Smeenk, managing director of BLNG, and his management team welcomed Mr Katsumata and his delegation upon their arrival at the BLNG plant in Lumut.

Mr Smeenk briefed the Tepco executives of BLNG's daily operations and its plans, including its current rejuvenation programs. The Japanese visitors also toured the Lumut plant.

BLNG accounts for about 10.9 per cent of Japan's total LNG imports, part of which is delivered to Tepco.

Tepco annually imports around 17 million tonnes of LNG from Alaska, Brunei, Das Island in the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, Tnrlnnacia, Australia and Qatar. BLNG also exports to Korea.

Shortly after his arrival on Sunday, Mr Katsumata paid a courtesy call on Minister of Energy in the Prime Minister's Office Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Utama Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Yahya bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, who chairs the BLNG board of directors.

The minister also hosted a dinner for the Tepco delegation and introduced them to Minister of Finance II Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abd Rahman bin Haji Ibrahim, who is also Chairman of the Brunei Shell Tankers. -- Courtesy of The Brunei Times
