Brunei Peacekeepers To Join UN
Force In Lebanon Soon

Begawan - The role of Support Services of Royal Brunei Armed
Forces came in for high praise yesterday by its commandant Colonel
Pengiran Haji Azmansham Bin Pengiran Hj Mohammad, who also indicated
the "soon to come" Brunei's peacekeeping mission to Lebanon.

Yesterday, some 800 personnel from
the Support Services of Royal Brunei Armed Forces, under the
command of Major Hasten Bin Hj Hassan, took part in a parade to
mark the 15th Anniversary of Support Services at the parade square
of Bolkiah Garrison.
Malaysia's national news agency
Bernama reported that Malaysian troops will join- the United
Nations peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon within a month.
Malaysia has informed the world
body of its acceptance of a place in the UN Interim Force in
Lebanon; Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak was quoted as saying by
the national news agency.
After a recent meeting between His Majesty the Sultan and Yang
Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Malaysian Prime Minister
Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, the Malaysian premier said that Brunei
would send 100 peace monitors to Lebanon along with Malaysia.

The commandant of Support Services
of Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Colonel Pengiran Haji Azmansham, who
was the guest of honour, in his welcoming address said, "Since the
establishment 15 years ago, Support Services has successfully
become an organisation that has matured and plays a significant
role in providing increasing support services to combat units of
Royal Brunei Armed Forces. |
"Besides providing support services
to the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, the unit has been providing aid for
international operations such as assisting in humanitarian operations
and international peacekeeping missions," he added.
"The operations involving Support
Services include tsunami aid in Aceh, earthquake aid in Jogyakarta,
monitoring mission in Aceh, International monitoring mission in
Mindanao and soon to come, the peacekeeping mission to Lebanon, which
is a huge leap in the development of Support Services since its
establishment 15 years ago," he said.
"And through these missions, we get a
chance to test our capabilities and trainings as well as to show that
we can provide support services in a real situation and operation,"
added Colonel Pengiran Haji Azmansham.
Recalling the Brunei International
Tattoo performance 2006, the commandant lauded the performance of the
Royal Brunei Armed Forces as well as the support units of Support
Services and individuals who played their roles while cooperating with
other units of RBAF in successfully organising one of the biggest
Tattoo performances in the world.
He urged all personnel of Support
Services RBAF not to be complacent with past achievements as there is
still plenty of room for improvement in their efforts to continue
building efficiency and capability.
In terms of discipline and security,
the commandant reminded all personnel to be cautious and diligent
while carrying out their task. He warned that tough disciplinary
actions will be taken against those who continue to be careless and
neglect their responsibilities.
"Recently, I have also urged heads of
department to improve the management and implementation of programmes
at headquarters and Support Services units.
"With regards to this, a quality
management system will be set up in stages in the various areas. In
other words, the main work procedure will have to identified, properly
arranged, recorded and audited to give consistency in management," he
added.
Also present at the ceremony were the
deputy commandant, senior officers, officers and personnel from the
Support Services of Royal Brunei Armed Forces.
The night before the parade ceremony,
a "Doa Kesyukuran" was held at the Berakas Garrison's Surau in
conjunction with the 15th Anniversary of Support Services of Royal
Brunei Armed Forces. --
