ICT Books Available For Primary Students
By Rosli Abidin Yahya

Bandar Seri Begawan - Primary and lower secondary school students are now able to bridge the digital gap as they can purchase books on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the Malay language; thanks to the author, Hj Kamsani Hj Ahmad, a senior lecturer of Institute Teknologi Brunei (ITB).

The books, "Mudah Ke Arah Teknologi Maklumat dan Komunikasi" (Easy Guide towards ICT) level one to six (in English language) and level one to three (in Malay language) were exhibited at the Brunei ICT Awards (BICTA) expo, which ended yesterday, at the International Convention Centre in Berakas.

Hj Kamsani said the three Malay titles were translated from the English versions, which were written by him.

"It took me two years to translate the Englishversion books for the benefit of primary school students here."The three Malay-language ICT books were meant for

Primary One to Three pupils," he added.

Currently, all the books are used as references in some schools like Tinkerbell, Sunshine, Pertama, Tutong Public School and Bakti Dewa.

Hj Kamsani had written ICT textbooks and workbooks for Primary One to Six in English which were introduced to various primary school teachers in Brunei-Muara and

Tutong District in Jan 2005.

He said that he was inspired to compile ICT books for primary level students after discovering that there was no such text currently available in the market.

"I was asked by some primary school teachers to help them compile an ICT syllabus for them to teach their students since computers have been introduced at their schools as an extra-curricular activity.

"Therefore, I came up with these books that cover the ICT subject," he said.

Prior to writing the books, Hj Kamsani had been author to a number of computer books such as "An Easy Guide to Microsoft Word" as well as written papers on electrical, electronic, magnetic engineering and ICT.

His interest began when he struggled to figure out a problem of an old computer back in 1991. His interest deepened as he started to learn more about computers through friends, magazines and correspondence courses.

He obtained his Chartered Engineering (CEng) in the UK in 1998 and obtained certifications in MCP, MCSE, MCSA and MCT as well as qualifications in A+, Linux +, Network + and CISCO qualifications.

Prior to computer qualifications, he also obtained his BTEC HND Engineering, BSc Electrical Power Engineering and MSc Electrical and Electromagnetic Engineering in the UK.

The ICT publications can be purchased at the de Heritage Information Technology Services at No 14, 1st Floor, Bangunan Hj Ahmad, Jalan Kiulap, Gadong. For further enquiries call at 2233359/60. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
