HSBC Celebrates Deepavali With
Customers
By Huraizah Ahrnad
Bandar Seri
Begawan - HSBC yesterday hosted a Deepavali celebration for its
400 Indian customers at the Orchid Garden Hotel in Berakas. Deepavali,
which marks the beginning of the Hindu Calendar, marks the Festival of
Lights which is often highlighted with a display of the 'Kolam'.
The event began with the lighting of
the candles around the 'Kolam' by Mrs Sukhi Singh, the wife of the
Indian High Commissioner to Brunei.
In a welcoming address by Mr
Priestley, he said: "For the last several years, HSBC has been proud
and privileged to host the Deepavali reception for our Indian friends.
The theme of diversity runs deep in
HSBC. Such reception is hosted not only by HSBC Brunei but also by
HSBC offices throughout the world, especially at our offices in India.
The diversity programme reflects our
belief that a more rounded knowledge of our staff and customers'
backgrounds, including their spiritual values, help increase
understanding of their needs and make us their preferred banking
partner."
The event also included performances
by a group of students from the Indian community, which was followed
by a lucky draw for invited guests.
The highlight of the event was a
special performance by seven-year-old Praya Kamat who performed a
special choreographed dance called 'Kanga-Nare' or Nbangle dance taken
from the soundtrack of the movie Pa-He-Li. --
