Prisons Organises Religious Activities

Bandar Seri Begawan - Throughout the month of Ramadhan, the Prisons Department has been organising 'bertedarus' ceremony at all its prisons every night.

To mark the completion of the reading of 30 Juzuk of the holy Quran, a Khatam al-Quran ceremony was held at the Prayer Hall of the Jerudong Prison.

Present at the function was the Director of Prisons, Hj Ahmad bin Hj Dullah. At the end of the event, the Tahlil and Doa Arwah were held, led by Ustaz Hj Kamal Sharum bin Hj Momin, the religious teacher at the Jerudong Prison.

In a separate function, the Female Prison also held a Khatam alQuran for its inmates in conjunction with the Nuzul al-Quran celebration.

A conversion ceremony for three female inmates who embraced the Islamic faith was also held during the celebration.

The event was conducted by officers from the Islamic Dakwah Centre and witnessed by the Director of Prisons, officers and staff of the Prisons Department.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
