By Suria Rina PHA
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The Executive Board of the East Asian Insurance
Congress (EAIC) has decided that the 23rd East Asian Insurance
Congress will be held from July 30 to August 2 next year in Brunei
Darussalam, one of the smallest insurance markets in the 11-member
grouping.
Yesterday the 23rd EAIC Website was
launched by guest of honour, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of
Finance, Dato Paduka Haji Ali Bin Apong.
In his remarks he said, "Despite
being one of the smallest insurance markets in the 11-member grouping;
namely Brunei, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Macaw,
Manila, Seoul, Singapore, Taipei and Tokyo, the initiative taken by
the GIAB in hosting the 23rd Congress signals the sincerity of the
insurance industry to fully support the government's initiative in
promoting the country as one of the primary financial centers".
The event, which will be held at the
state-of-the-art International Convention Centre in Bandar Seri
Begawan, is ranked as one of the most important in the calendars of
insurers, reinsurers, brokers, insurance regulators and service
providers around the world and serves as the platform to make new
business contacts and rekindle old ties.
The conference is expected to bring
together some 1,000 decision makers and leaders to discuss key issues
facing the insurance industry today.
Ms Dorothy Newn, Chairperson of the
General Insurance Association of Brunei (GIAB), the host of the 23rd
EAIC said: "We have specially timed this conference to coincide with
the 60' birthday celebrations of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang
Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
This will give delegates the real
opportunity to join Bruneians in this most joyous and memorable
occasion. The whole country will be bedecked in the best of auspicious
colours and decorations.
It will be truly a memorable visit
especially for those visiting our country for the first time."
The Conference will feature formal
and informal sessions that address significant and critical issues
facing the life and non-life insurance industry including the recent
earthquake in Pakistan and India, the Katrina 'Hurricane, Indian Ocean
Tsunami, Corporate Governance, Disaster Prevention, Reputation Risks
and Educating the Consumers.
The early bird registration for the
Conference closes on January 31, 2006. Those interested can check out
