Boost For Brunei Darters
By Dannie Abu Basrah
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The Brunei Darussalam National Darts Association (BNDA)
is now officially an affiliated member of the World Darts Federation (WDF)
from Oct 2.
Vice-President of BNDA Awang Serabah
bin Hj Abas attended the General Membership Meeting at the Grand
Chancellor Hotel in Perth, Australia and officially engaged the WDF
for the affiliation.
Currently, BNDA has about 80
registered members and membership is open to all interested
individuals in the country.
BNDA
was formed in June 1996 then known as Brunei Darts Association and was
supported by the Department of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Culture,
Youth and Sports.
Around 60 member countries which
included newly affiliated member countries such as Iran and South
Korea also attended the meet.
Prior to the meeting, the Darts World
Cup, opened to all WDF nations and hosted by the
Western Australia Darts Federation
was held.
The affiliation brings benefits to
BNDA members where they are able to participate and compete in the WDF
sanctioned tournaments hosted by other member countries and will be
ranked accordingly.
The Asia Pacific Cup will be held in
Kuala Lumpur next year.
The World Darts Federation (WDF) is a
nonpolitical, non-racial and non-profit making organisation formed in
1976 by representatives from 15 nations.
Its establishment was dedicated
towards achieving and maintaining the highest possible standard of
presentation and organisations around the world, as membership is open
to the official national organising body for darts in all nations.
Incorporated in the US, as a
worldwide federation of darts bodies, the WDF also encourages the
promotion of the sport among and between these bodies, in an effort to
gain international recognition for darts as a major sport.
In keeping with this goal, the WDF
organises international events such as the "World Cup" for all WDF
nations, "Americas Cup" for WDF nations in the Americas, "Asia-Pacific
Cup" for WDF Nations in Asia including the South Pacific and the
"Europe Cup" for WDF nations in Europe.
At present, the WDF is comprised of
more than 250,000 players, representing 60 nations across the six
continents of Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North and South
America.
The WDF holds bi-annual General
Membership Meetings in conjunction with World Cup events convened
during alternate years, following the Winmau World Championships in
England.
Annually, the WDF compiles its
official World Player Rankings tables based on participation in over
40 national, regional and world ranked events, staged by the WDF and
its member darts bodies. --
