Heroine Welcome For Brunei Athletes

Bandar Seri Begawan - It was a heroine welcome for the Brunei contingent who took part in the recent 4`h Women Islamic Games in Tehran, Iran.

The Brunei athletes bagged one gold, two silver and two bronze medals at the meet.

Chieng Chiew Jing won a gold medal when she scored 77 in the individual category of the golf event. Chieng

Chiew Jing with Hong Lan Kiong and Hjh Rusni Lamat also bagged a silver medal in the team category.

Nur Sari Hafizah Matasan won Brunei's second silver in athletics while the two bronze medals were won by taekwando exponents Farahwaheeda Haji Bujang (bantamweight) and Aflina Shareena Rosli (flyweight).

Hundreds of women athletes from 41 countries contested 18 sports event. This is the first time Brunei Darussalam are taking part in the annual sporting event. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
