Minister To SSBAYP Delegates:
Uphold Brunei's Reputation

Begawan - A 29-strong contingent representing the country on
the Ship for South East Asian Youth Programme (SSEAYP) 2005 met with
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Pehin Dato Major General (R) Awg
Hj Mohammad bin Hj Daud yesterday and were given words of
encouragement and advice in regards to their participation.
Pehin
Mohammad stated during the visit by the delegation that although they
will be able to learn through attending and observing, it is through
active participation that members of the delegation will look to
contribute to the activities and discussions which take place.
The minister encouraged active
participation and also duly reminded the delegation about the
responsibilities that are borne during the course of the programme.
Through participation the chosen participants shall be representing
the Sultanate, the participants should do their utmost in upholding
the name of the nation and its people while taking part in the
experience.
The programme is aimed at enhancing
ties between the youths of Southeast Asia and Japan, while forging a
common link and understanding of aspects of each other's country's
economic development, politics, social, traditional and cultural
background.
Meanwhile, also in attendance at
yesterday's meeting were Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports
Dato Awg Hj Yakub bin Abu Bakar and Permanent Secretary at the
Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Awg Hj Jemat bin Hj Ampal.
Brunei will be represented by 29
members including a head of contingent. In total, 330 youths from
Asean countries will be taking part in the SSYEAP this year and the
ship will begin its journey in Port Klang, Malaysia on November 10.
Participants will makes stops at
Bangkok in Thailand, Ho Chi Min in Vietnam, Muara Port in Brunei,
Manila in the Philippines, and Tokyo in Japan. --
