India's Media Representatives
Briefed On Brunei's FDI

Begawan - The presence of Indian investors in Brunei in
industries such manufacturing and information technology together with
Brunei's priority and target areas for attracting foreign direct
investment (FDI) were some of the inquiries made by the visiting
Indian journalists who are in the country as part of the Asean-India
media exchange programme.
According to Awg Momin bin Hj Syawal,
Special Duties Officer and Head of Promotion and Entrepreneurial
Development Division, there is at present no trade delegation from
Brunei going to India. But Brunei trade missions have been to China,
Japan and the United States, he said.
"We are yet to take the initiative to
go to India, but we plan to," said Awg Momin. "Currently there are
also no Indian investors in the manufacturing and IT industries in
Brunei."
The priority areas, namely preferred
industries, associated activities and products were also highlighted
including the manufacture of food products for local and export
markets.
Earlier the journalists were briefed
on local industries and attracting FDI. The briefing featured a video
presentation entitled, "Brunei, the Land of Golden Opportunities".
Some 11 media representatives from
India and a representative from the Asean Secretariat are in the
country for a threeday visit. During their stay, they would visit the
Authority for InfoCommunications Technology Industry, the National
Chamber of Commerce and Industry, RTB, Brunei Press Sdn Bhd and also
tour Kampong Ayer.
The media representatives also called
on the Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office, Pg Dato
Paduka Hj Ismail as well as the Indian High Commissioner to the
country, and attended dinners hosted by Dato Paduka Awg Hj Mahmud,
National Chairman of the Asean-Coci for Brunei. --
