Brunei Begins Fasting On Wednesday

Bandar Seri Begawan – Brunei will begin fasting on Wednesday.

The announcement was broadcast this evening by the Syari'ah Court Judge, Dato Awang Haji Metussin bin Haji Baki.

This afternoon, officers from the Syariah Courts, the State Judiciary Department, Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Survey Department, were at Bukit Shahbandar in Jerudong, in the Brunei Muara district, at Bukit Agok Firing Range and Bukit Ambok in Tutong and at Bukit Lumut in Belait District, to try to sight the new moon of Ramadhan.

A nightly terawih prayer as usual will begin tomorrow and bertedarus ceremony will also highlight the Ramadhan nights at all mosques and suraus in the country.

Meanwhile working hours for the ministries and government departments during the fasting month of Ramadhan will be from 8am till 2pm.

Working hours for daily paid staff should be reduced by one hour from the normal time. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
