Brunei Speakers On Immigration
By Tony Alabastro
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Two Brunei immigration officials have been invited to
speak tomorrow and Sunday, during the Basic Orientation Course for
Overseas Filipino Workers at the Philippine Embassy Chancery, was
announced yesterday.
Awg
Azmi bin Hj Hafneh, Assistant Director of Immigration and Awg Muhsin
bin Hj Ahmad, Senior Chief Immigration Officer, have been invited to
talk on "The Immigration Laws of Brunei Darussalam," the Philippine
Embassy said.
Last Sunday, the important features
of the Labour Laws of Brunei Darussalam were discussed by Awg Shariful
Bahri Hj Sawas, Assistant Commissioner, and Hj Rosli Matnoor, Senior
Labour Inspector, of the Brunei Labour Department.
They highlighted the processes and
procedures involved in the employment of overseas workers and
assistance for Filipinos who encounter problems in the Sultanate.
Awg
Shariful Bahri conducted a discussion on legal matters, claims, non
payment of wages and other labour issues.
Workers who wants to clarify
employment issues or make a complaint can visit the Labour Office on
the Fifth Floor of the Immigration building, write a letter to the
Philippine Embassy or the Labour Department, or call the Labour
hotline at 2381-848, said Hj Rosli Matnoor.
They can also lodge a report to the
nearest police station. He also encouraged complainants to file their
reports early, where chances of resolving the issue will be greater.
He also added that workers taken by
employers directly to the airport can report to the immigration
officer on duty or to the police that they were forcibly repatriated
and that their wages have not been paid.
Philippine Ambassador to Brunei
Virginia H. Benavidez, in a statement, expressed the Embassy's deep
appreciation to Shariful Bahri and Hj Rosli for taking time out of
their busy schedules to share their knowledge and expertise on Brunei
Labour laws and for all the assistance and cooperation that have been
extended to the Philippine Embassy and the Filipino community
throughout the years.
Overseas Filipino workers interested
to attend the Orientation Course can call the Philippine Embassy
through 223-6981, 223-7052 and 223-7053 for details. --
