Vietnam Invites Hua Ho Chairman
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam
received a courtesy call from a prominent businessman at its office in
Pengkalan Gadong yesterday morning in what was described as a
fact-finding visit towards fostering better ties between the two
parties.
On hand to receive the delegation,
headed by Pehin Awang Lau Ah Kok, was the Ambassador Extraordinary and
Plenipotentiary of Vietnam Mr Ha Hong Hai.
The ambassador invited Pehin Lau,
Chairman of Hua Ho Departmental Store, Hua Ho Agricultural Farm and
Hua Ho Culture Foundation, to visit Vietnam and evaluate the
opportunity in trade and investment available in the country.
He said Vietnam managed to attract
direct foreign investment from 70 countries and hoped Pehin Lau could
join, as it would be a tremendous help towards development of the
socialist republic.
He added Vietnam is also supplying
workers to other countries in need of skilled and manual labour.
"Currently, Vietnam supplies 77,000
workers to Malaysia. In Brunei, we have applied for a reduction of
deposit of workers, from $1,800 to $600 to make it more affordable for
employers here," he said.
He also hoped Brunei could import
rice from Vietnam.
Meanwhile, Pehin Lau invited the
ambassador to visit his nine agricultural farms as well as his seven
departmental stores nationwide.
Pehin
Lau hoped to employ Vietnamese as workers in his companies.
Pehin
Lau later handed souvenirs to the ambassador. --
